With the introduction of "double carbon", "double control" and carbon-related policies, the development of propylene oxide industry is also increasing.
Lv Xiaodong, an expert of Sinopec Institute of Economics and Technology, said at the meeting that the improvement of safety and environmental protection requirements will further improve the entry threshold of propylene oxide and polyether polyol industries. The inclusion of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide in the list of specially controlled chemicals will also increase the concentration of propylene oxide and polyether polyol industries, especially the proposal of the "double carbon" goal will have a profound impact on the internal and external development environment of the industry.
The 'dual control' of energy consumption will affect the operation and efficiency of the industry in the medium and short term. The medium and long term will limit the expansion of high energy-consuming industries, making related industries gradually become 'licensed' industries, and the supply gap will be enlarged accordingly. It will also benefit industries with low raw material costs, stock enterprises, advanced production capacity, and new energy and environmental protection industries. It is expected that the policy will also stimulate the acceleration of some projects in the short term, but in the future, the cycle of new projects will become longer and the enthusiasm for investment and construction will also weaken. Sun Jie, deputy general manager of Jiangsu Yida Chemical Co., Ltd., believes that at present, propylene oxide production processes such as direct oxidation of propylene to propylene oxide (HPPO), propylene oxide/styrene, propylene oxide/methyl tert-butyl ether have their own characteristics, but none of them has absolute advantages. Among them, HPPO enjoys the encouragement of national industrial policies, as well as the advantages of environmental protection, low energy consumption and low investment. She suggested that when investing in propylene oxide projects under the "double carbon" and "double control" environment, enterprises should not only consider the sources of energy indicators and pollution control indicators, but also comprehensively consider its progressiveness, integrity, raw material sources, supporting product prices, upstream and downstream industrial chains, sales channels, capital and other factors before choosing their own process and technology routes.
Ni Ji, chief analyst of Orient Securities and Chemical, believes that according to the statistical caliber of China's carbon accounting database, China's current total annual carbon emissions are about 10 billion tons. Industrial manufacturing accounted for 39% and petrochemical and chemical industry contributed 400 million tons. If the emission of coal chemical process is considered, the total emission of petrochemical industry is about 1 billion tons, and the task of realizing the "double carbon" target is urgent. In the future, the chemical industry will face multiple changes such as production route change, cost curve reconstruction, new and old demand switching, and enterprises should find their own position and outlet in the new demand and new cost curve generated by carbon neutrality as soon as possible.
In Ni Ji's view, the project of propane dehydrogenation (PDH) - propylene epoxypropane integrated industrial chain will usher in development opportunities in the "double carbon" era. In the carbon-neutral scenario, the carbon price is included in the cost, which corresponds to a sharp increase in the cost of hydrogen. In the future, the profit focus of light hydrocarbon chemical industry should be transferred from the olefin side to the hydrogen side. Among them, PDH projects are mostly located in the eastern coastal areas, with tight coal indicators and suitable for the development of chemicals that only need hydrogen. Synthetic ammonia, hydrogen peroxide, 1,4-butanediol (BDO), adipic acid, etc. are better choices. Hydrogen peroxide can be used to produce lithium iron phosphate. BDO and adipic acid are the main raw materials of polybutylene terephthalate (PBAT), which have a huge potential explosive market. " Ni Ji said.
